Are consents for Oral Chemotherapy required? We advise consents for infusion medication but is the same process required for oral chemotherapy medication?
Are Consents Required For Oral Chemotherapy?
CMS and TJC are silent on the issue of informed consent for cancer chemotherapy. Many oncologists advise informed consent as does the American Cancer Society. They recommend taking this step for IV chemo and for chemo regardless of route.
Ultimately, this is really an internal decision. But if that decision has already been made for IV chemo, we recommend following the same process for oral.
