Jared Shapiro, DrPH, MPH, CEM, HEM, FAcEM, CBCP, CHSP, CHFM, NRP is a Life Safety Consultant with Patton Healthcare Consulting. In this capacity, he provides Joint Commission and CMS related consultation to Barrins & Associates clients nationwide. His expertise is in the areas of Life Safety Code compliance as well as Joint Commission and CMS standards for the Environment of Care and Emergency Management. Dr. Shapiro is an accomplished healthcare executive with 17 years’ experience in healthcare operations, operational management, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement.
In addition to his consulting experience, Dr. Shapiro currently serves as the System Associate Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety for the Montefiore Health System in New York. He oversees all aspects of the Environment of Care, Life Safety, Hazardous Waste, Construction Safety, Radiation Safety, Emerging Infectious Disease Program, Employee Safety, Pre-hospital Care and Emergency Management.
Dr. Shapiro is an Associate Professor at New York Medical College’s School of Health Science and Practice where he teaches the Master of Public Health program. Dr. Shapiro is the Deputy Commander for the NJ-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team and former Fire Chief. Dr. Shapiro sits on The Joint Commission’s Emergency Management Standards Review Panel for Hospitals and Home Care programs and has been a consultant on the issues of Environment of Care, Life Safety, Emergency Management on the Federal, Tribal, State, and Local levels.
Dr. Shapiro received his Doctorate of Public Health at New York Medical College as well as his Masters of Public Health. Dr. Shapiro holds the following credentials: Certified Emergency Manager, Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager, Certified Healthcare Safety Professional, Certified Fire Inspector, Certified Business Continuity Professional, Six-Sigma Black Belt, Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional, and Healthcare Environmental Manager. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Managers.
