Mary Kay Bowie is a healthcare quality and performance improvement professional with more than 30 years of experience spanning clinical care, healthcare administration, accreditation, performance measurement, and strategic client engagement. She works closely with healthcare organizations to identify opportunities for improvement and connect leaders with solutions that strengthen quality, patient safety, operational performance, and regulatory readiness.
Ms. Bowie most recently served as Director of National Accounts for The Joint Commission, where she partnered with health systems, hospitals, and executive leadership teams nationwide to support quality improvement, accreditation, certification, and performance excellence initiatives. Throughout her career, she has built trusted relationships with healthcare leaders, helping organizations align strategic goals with practical solutions that improve outcomes across the continuum of care.
Prior to her national account leadership roles, Ms. Bowie spent more than two decades within The Joint Commission’s Division of Healthcare Quality Evaluation, where she held progressively advancing leadership positions in performance measurement operations. She played a key role in the development, implementation, and oversight of national quality initiatives, including ORYX®, Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®, Core Measure Solution Exchange®, and Pioneers in Quality™. Her experience includes healthcare quality and safety, performance measurement, process improvement, change management, team development, project management, data analytics, and healthcare education.
Ms. Bowie is known for her collaborative approach, strategic perspective, and ability to help organizations navigate complex quality and performance challenges. Her passion is helping healthcare leaders identify opportunities for growth, advance organizational goals, and create sustainable improvements that enhance both patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.
She earned a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, magna cum laude, from Eastern Michigan University. Ms. Bowie is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and holds Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Change Agent certifications. She is also a certified trainer in Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability.
