Kenneth Blackwell, CHFM, CHSP is an experienced Environment of Care and Life Safety Code Engineer who has been in the health care industry for 20+ years and has surveyed over 700 healthcare facilities. His expertise includes healthcare regulatory compliance, Life Safety Plan Review, operations management, strategic planning, business process improvement, team building, and robust process improvement.
He served as a Life Safety Code Specialist for The Joint Commission for 15+ years served as a Preceptor to new hires seeking to become certified Life Safety Code Surveyors. In addition, he was certified to survey Acute Care, Behavioral Health and Ambulatory Care hospitals. He is also certified to survey the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs.
Mr. Blackwell served as the Vice President of Facilities & Support Services at United Medical Center, Director of Engineering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Director of Engineering at Malcolm Grow Medical Center, Andrews Air Force Base and has served as Director Occupational Safety & Health at University of Maryland Medical Center.
Mr. Blackwell is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), is member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and is a Yellow Belt. He is currently a member of Joint Commission’s Advisory Committee and was an active member of the US Air Force, serving as an Air Traffic Controller for over ten years. He earned his associate degree in Aeronautical Science at North Carolina Central University in 1990 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1998 in Healthcare Management. He has authored numerous Environment of Care articles, and he is an accomplished public speaker.
