Question:
Do hospital laundry services require a current hospital-accredited certificate or can they just provide the evidence that they follow all of the recommended Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC) guidelines?
Answer:
You do not need to your hospital laundry service accredited. Accreditation is voluntary, but you are expected to adhere to the OSHA recommendations for laundry in healthcare facilities.
You should check the state to see if there are regulations on this, but assuming not, you will want to follow CMS & OSHA.
There is a TJC FAQ on laundering of scrubs, but if you extrapolate to linen, you are expected to adhere to state and federal requirements.
The HLAC website also clearly states that accreditation by them is not mandated.
