
Chris Ricchiuto, CHFM, CFPS
Life Safety Code Consultant
Chris Ricchiuto, CHFM, CFPS was a Joint Commission Life Safety Code Specialist for over 10 years and is cross trained in the Hospital Accreditation Program (HAP), Critical Access Hospital Program (CAH) and Behavioral Health Care Programs (BHC). Additionally, he has received specialized training from the Office of Quality and Patient Safety and was a member of the Special Survey Unit that performed “for cause” surveys in response to patient safety events.
His survey experience includes hospital and critical access hospitals, as well as specialty and long-term acute care (LTAC) facilities. Additionally, he has performed integrated surveys in academic, behavioral health and ambulatory healthcare settings.
In addition to being a field surveyor, Chris was a former Life Safety representative at The Joint Commission for the CITe initiative, which stands for “Consistent Interpretation Technology”, and was a member of the educational sub-committee that developed on-going training programs for the Life Safety surveyor group. Additionally, Chris served on the Survey Advisory Council (SAC) that provided input to senior leadership on a wide variety of issues important to the surveyor cadre.
Chris is currently the Manager of the Enterprise Fire & Life Safety team for the Cleveland Clinic Health System. His engineering experience includes HVAC,
mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP), construction and renovation, fire detection and suppression, security and access control, emergency power systems (EPS) and medical gas systems. He graduated from Vatterott College and holds a degree in Environmental Systems Engineering. In addition, he is credentialed by the American Hospital Association as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and by the National Fire Protection Association as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS).
Chris is currently licensed in five separate areas of fire protection and maintains additional licensure/certification in stationary engineering and medical gas systems among others. He has also received healthcare specific training from the Department of Homeland Security. He is currently a resident of Northeast Ohio.
