Kathy Leonard, RN, BSN, MSN

Mary “Kathy” Leonard, RN, BSN, MSN has more than 50 fruitful years of experience in the healthcare industry carrying a successful performance in various settings, including a 19-year tenure with The Joint Commission that concluded in 2024.
While with The Joint Commission, Ms. Leonard served as a Nurse and Administrator Field Surveyor. In this role, she was responsible to survey acute care facilities to ensure organizational compliance with TJC standards. She engaged health care organization staff in interactive dialogues to assess standards-based issues, offered onsite consultation and education on the intent of those standards, and identified opportunities to improve compliance. She has served as the Team Leader for major healthcare systems including for-profit, not-for-profit, and Veterans Affairs.
Prior to joining The Joint Commission, Ms. Leonard served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She has held other key positions and has also served as Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Bert Fish Medical Center, Assistant Director of Nursing at WVU Medicine Thomas Memorial Hospital, and was an Assistant Professor for Wright State University in Dayton, OH and West Virginia University in Charleston, WV.
Ms. Leonard received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Syracuse University and later her Master of Science in Nursing from the Ohio State University. She has been awarded as a Baldrige Examiner and is a current member and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She currently resides in sunny eastern Florida.
