The Joint Commission Advisory Group update took place on Dec 7th. Here are a few important points you should know.
Joint Commission Advisory Group Update
First, the Joint Commission is scheduling follow up surveys. Although they are still discussing the details with CMS, TJC has approval to conduct remote Accreditation early 2021, TJC will begin to conduct full re-surveys at deemed hospitals and other deemed programs utilizing remote technology. Once they have more information, TJC will communicate additional details.
In our June newsletter we reported that the Joint Commission is calling organizations in safer counties to inquire about organizational readiness. Soon, instead of the phone call, The Joint Commission will post a questionnaire to your secure extranet asking about readiness. Organizations that are in an open county and self-report that they are ready for survey will receive a call from their account representative. Keep an eye out for new postings to your extranet.
Finally, many of you struggle to onboard contracted or other temporary staff during this PHE. The Joint Commission said the onboarding process does not need to duplicate the process you use for employed staff. But each hospital is obliged to provide onboarding education for critical job duties and responsibilities. Although this may provide some relief, it requires you to identify necessary education and training.
