Question:
Is it considered therapeutic duplication if our EMR Power Plans included oral tablet, oral suspension, injectable, and suppository versions of an analgesic for mild pain?
Answer:
This would not be considered therapeutic duplication providing staff point out some hospital policy that guides when to give tab, when to give suspension, when to give injectable, and when to give suppository. If staff start to describe different personal logic arguments for when they would give one or the other, they would consider it therapeutic duplication. If the power plan does not limit the number of characters, we would suggest embedding that guidance on route selection right in the power plan.
