To help with decision making, an outlying emergency department may at times text EKGs to cardiologists at another location.
Does TJC and CMS Allow Texting of EKGs?
CMS issued a SC memo 18-10 on 12/22/17 stating that texting information other than orders was permissible, but only if the staff used a “secure program” such as an integral texting platform in Cerner, EPIC, or other EMR. Personal phones would not be permissible.
