Prescribe Infusion Services

Can a physician in our community prescribe infusion services from our hospital?

Answer:

The answer is yes, they may prescribe infusion services or any other outpatient service providing:

1. They are licensed in your state
2. The medical staff has authorized the practice in a written policy that is approved by the governing body
3. Staff verifies licensure and that order is within the scope of practice for the prescribing practitioner (for example, a podiatrist is not ordering a CT of the brain, or a dentist is not ordering a GI fluoroscopy, etc.)
